Our Story
Our story began 37 years ago with Dr. Hummel’s practice, which has been transitioned to Dr. Koga. Today, Koga Orthodontics is one of the leading orthodontics practices in Northwest Louisiana, serving patients of all ages.

Our Team
Dr. Liseane Koga, D.D.S./M.S.
Owner & Operator
Dr. Lis has been passionate about beautiful smiles since she was a teenager, and she has always been amazed how beautiful smiles can have a positive and lasting effect on someone’s life.
When she is not working, she likes to spend time with her husband and her dog. They love traveling all over the world, visiting different places, talking to people and being in touch with different cultures. Dr. Lis began backpacking South America when she was 15 year old, and her enthusiasm for visiting new places has never stopped. She and her husband also enjoy trying new restaurants—it’s their special thing.
Carol Smith
Lab Technician
Carol was born in Monroe, LA, and has lived in the area most of her life. She graduated from Ouachita Parish High School and started in Orthodontics after attending ULM Northeast Louisiana University. Dr. Robert Deveny employed her shortly thereafter, and she fell in love with the atmosphere of orthodontics.
Over the years, Carol has done all positions in the office—however, her talent for making retainers and appliances seemed to keep her in the lab. She obtained her Louisiana EDDA and then her Mississippi State EDDA through Gulf Coast State Coast Community College. Later, she obtained her Dental Assisting National Board Certification and CPR-certified training.
She has been married for 39 years and has 2 grown boys and a daughter-in-law. When she is not working, she is gardening, sewing, or spending time with her family.
Carol is Dental Assisting Board Certified, and also certified in Adult and Pediatric CPR.
Brandi Matthews
Treatment Coordinator
Brandi was born in Monroe, and graduated from Downsville High School.
She has been married to her husband for 17 years. They live near Caney Lake with their 3 fur
baby cats.
Brandi has been in the Orthodontic field since 2004, where she started as an assistant for Dr. Hummel. She loves meeting new patients and their families and helping achieve the perfect smile.
In her free time, Brandi enjoys spending time with her family shopping, hunting and being outdoors.
Brandi is EDDA and X-Ray certified.
Kely Mora

Hi, my names Kely Mora, I’ve lived in West Monroe since 2010 where I attended West Monroe High School. I enjoy spending time with friends and family outside of work and friends at work!
I enjoy coming to work and seeing all the familiar faces and meeting all the new people. I enjoy getting to know the kids that came in and seeing them happy when they leave.
M’Kayla L. Willhite
Insurance Coordinator
Hi my name is M’Kayla Willhite I’m from Winnsboro LA but recently moved to Monroe. I come from a family of 6. My mom, brother, sister, two step siblings and my step dad. When I’m not at work I enjoy spending time with family and friends and I’m a big animal lover.
I enjoy getting to know and build a relationship with every patient who walks through our doors. To make them happy makes me happy. I’m so excited to see what the future holds for Dr.Koga and the team!
Mollie Watkins
Orthodontic Assistant
Mollie was born and raised in Thornton, Arkansas. She moved to West Monroe in 2021 and is now married and has 2 children. Mollie has been a dental assistant for almost 2 years working in a general and pediatric setting. She has always had an interest in orthodontics, and is very excited to learn amazing things from the doctor and team!
Outside of work, Mollie loves to spend time with her husband and kids, cooking, and being outdoors! She also enjoys shopping, crafting, and binge watching her comfort shows.
Mollie loves to see the transformations and confidence her patients have with their smile, she also loves to connect and create a bond with her patients.
Greyson Higgerson
Orthodontic Assistant
I’m from Winnsboro, Louisiana where I graduated from Franklin Parish High School in 2022. I now live in Monroe for work and also college. I attended the dental assistant program through NELA Dental in January of 2023 to receive my X-Ray and dental certification.
I knew from a young age that orthodontics was my passion. I enjoy connecting with patients of all ages from all around, and getting to do what I love every day. Being able to help others feel confident with their smile is the best part of my job.
Outside of work I enjoy road trips, going out to eat with friends, shopping, or staying home and relaxing.
Katie Haynes (Katie Bug)
Orthodontic Assistant, E.D.D.A.
Katie was born and raised in Sterlington LA. She joined the orthodontic team in January 2021, and got her dental assistant certification through NELA Dental right here in Monroe, LA. Orthodontics is a huge passion of hers, and she loves seeing her patients’ confidence when leaving the chair.
Katie’s favorite part of the job is meeting new people every single day and creating a relaxed environment for them. When she’s not helping create beautiful smiles, Katie loves shopping and creating memories with her family and her fiancé.
Katie is certified in Adult and Pediatric CPR, X-Ray, and E.D.D.A.
Britney Borden (Brit)
Orthodontic Assistant, E.D.D.A.
Britney was born and raised in Olla, LA. Currently, she lives in Rayville with the love of her life. Britney joined Dr. Glenn Hummel’s practice 3 years ago, which is now Koga Orthodontics. She’s found it absolutely amazing to learn from the doctors and team.
Britney loves the interactions that she has with all of the patients and their families; it truly brings a smile to her face. She looks forward to coming to work and getting to know each and every one of you!
Outside of the office, Britney enjoys going shopping, getting her nails done, and spending time with her boyfriend, family, and three fur babies!

Dr. Liseane Koga, D.D.S./M.S.
Owner & Operator
Dr. Liseane Koga and her husband are originally from Brazil. Tiago, her husband, is an engineer who completed his master and post-graduation at MIT. In an unexpected turn of events, in 2013, my husband was offered a position to work for Whirlpool Corporation in USA, Michigan. Despite the challenges and sacrifices of this bold move, we saw it as a great opportunity to grow individually and professionally. They lived in Michigan for 9 years, before deciding to move to the Southern United States (away from the intense and long Michigan winter).
Dr. Koga graduated from dental school back in Brazil, finishing her first orthodontics residency in 2007. To further enhance her knowledge in orthodontics, she earned a one year fellowship in Orthodontics and Oral Facial Genetics at Indiana University.
Due to her outstanding skills and commitment to the patients, Dr. Koga got accepted to take her second Orthodontic Residency and Master of Science degree at the same school. In 2019, she received the title of Orthodontist with Certification in Orthodontics and Master of Science in the United States.
After her graduation, she worked as an Associate Orthodontist in Michigan and Indiana, where she began working with Damon braces. Dr. Koga always have interest in studying the causes of malpositioned teeth, the relation of the malocclusion with constricted airways, the necessity of early intervention to avoid future teeth extractions or surgical procedures, and eventual multidisciplinary approach needed to re-establish healthy and well-balanced occlusion. Her thoughts on this subject have appeared in a published paper in an international journal.
